How to Turn a Replit App into an Android App and Publish It on Google Play

Replit Agent can build and deploy a full-stack web app in an afternoon. Here's how to turn that deployment into a real Android app on Google Play, and the Replit settings that make it feel fast on a phone.

9 min read

Replit Agent builds full-stack web apps (frontend, backend, database and login) and publishes them to a replit.app address or your own domain. If you want that app on Android phones and in the Google Play Store, the fastest route is to package your published Replit app as a native Android app. This guide explains when that's the right choice, the Replit deployment settings that matter for a mobile app, what to fix before you convert, and each step to Google Play.

Two ways to get a Replit project onto Android

Web app wrapper vs. Replit's Expo mobile route
Wrap your deployed web appBuild a native app with Expo on Replit
What you buildA normal Replit web appA separate React Native (Expo) project
Same project as your websiteYes, one codebase for web and AndroidNo, a second app to maintain
Getting to Google PlayUpload the AAB your converter producesBuild and sign the Android binary yourself, then submit it
Updating contentPublish in Replit and the app updates instantlyShip a new app build
Best forWeb apps you already have, or want on web and AndroidApps that need deep native features from day one

If you already have a working Replit web app, wrapping it is usually days faster and means you only maintain one product. The rest of this guide covers that route. For how the two approaches compare in general, see PWA vs WebView app.

Choose the right Replit deployment type

Your Android app loads your deployed Replit app every time it opens, so the deployment type directly affects how fast the app feels.

Replit deployment types and what they mean for a mobile app
Deployment typeHow it behavesEffect on your Android app
AutoscaleScales down to zero after about 15 minutes idle; you pay per useThe first open after a quiet period can wait on a cold start, often several seconds
Reserved VMAlways on, fixed monthly costConsistently fast opens; the best choice for a production app
StaticHTML, CSS and JavaScript only, no backendVery fast, but only for apps with no server code

Autoscale is fine for testing. For a public app, especially while Google reviewers and your closed-test testers are using it, an always-on deployment avoids the slow first launch that makes an app feel broken. Whichever you choose, connect a custom domain before you build the Android app, so you can change deployment settings later without shipping a new version.

What to fix in your Replit app first

  1. 1Sign-in: Replit Auth and many Agent-built apps offer Google login, and Google blocks its sign-in page inside embedded WebViews with a 403 disallowed_useragent error. Test login inside the app, and make email sign-in (password or one-time code) available so users are never stuck.
  2. 2Mobile layout: ask Agent to check every page at phone width. Admin tables, sidebars and charts are the usual problems.
  3. 3Email links: password resets and magic links open in the phone's browser unless your domain is verified for the app with an assetlinks.json file served at /.well-known/assetlinks.json. Ask Agent to serve the file your app builder gives you, or use one-time codes instead of links.
  4. 4File uploads: if users upload photos or documents, test uploads inside the app and turn on photo library access when you build it.
  5. 5Web-only clutter: hide desktop cookie banners and "install our app" prompts, either in the code or only inside the app using custom CSS.

Step by step: Replit app to Android app

  1. 1

    Deploy your Replit app

Publish from the Publishing tool, pick your deployment type, and link your custom domain. Copy the live URL, not the development preview.

  2. 2

    Create your app in Capsule

Paste the URL, upload your icon and choose a splash screen. Capsule builds Android's adaptive launcher icon from a single image.

  3. 3

Set package name, colours and features

Choose a package name you own (com.yourbrand.app), match the status bar to your brand, and enable only the permissions your app uses. Add a bottom tab bar for up to five main routes.

  4. 4

    Build and test

Install the APK on a phone. Test login, uploads, payments, pull-to-refresh and the back button, ideally after the deployment has been idle for a while.

  5. 5

    Submit to Google Play

Upload the AAB in Play Console. New personal developer accounts must run a 14-day closed test with at least 12 testers first.

Payments and Google Play

If your Replit app uses Stripe for physical goods or real-world services, you can keep it. If it sells digital subscriptions or content used inside the app, Google Play's Payments policy generally requires Google Play's billing system for those purchases. Check the current policy for your market before submitting.

Getting through Google Play review

  • Create a test account for reviewers and add it under App access. Agent-built apps are often login-only, and missing credentials are a top rejection reason.
  • Fill in the Data safety form for everything your Replit backend stores: accounts, uploads, analytics, payments.
  • Host your privacy policy on your domain. Agent can generate the page.
  • Keep the deployment responsive during review; a reviewer who waits on a cold start may assume the app doesn't work.

The full walkthrough is in how to publish an app on Google Play, and new accounts should read the 12 testers, 14 days rule before they start.

After launch

Every time you redeploy from Replit, Android users get the new version the next time the app loads, with no store review. You only rebuild the Android app for native changes like the icon, splash screen, colours or permissions. Also building with other AI tools? See Lovable app to Android and Bolt app to Android.

Frequently asked questions

Can Replit publish apps to the Google Play Store?
Replit deploys web apps, and its Expo route produces a native project you still need to build and submit yourself. The fastest way to get an existing Replit web app on Google Play is to package the deployed URL as a signed Android app and upload the AAB.
Which Replit deployment type is best for a mobile app?
An always-on Reserved VM gives the most consistent experience, because Autoscale deployments scale to zero when idle and the first open can wait on a cold start. Static deployments are fastest but only work for apps without a backend.
Will Replit Auth work in my Android app?
Email sign-in works well. Google blocks its own sign-in page inside embedded WebViews, so test Google login inside the app before you publish and make email sign-in available.
Do I need to rebuild the Android app every time I redeploy on Replit?
No. The app loads your live deployment, so changes appear immediately. Rebuild only for native changes such as the icon, splash screen or permissions.
How much does it cost to turn a Replit app into an Android app?
Capsule is free for 7 days, then $120 one-time per app. Google charges a separate one-time $25 developer fee to publish on Google Play, and Replit bills its own hosting.
