Bubble App to Android: Native Builder vs Wrapping Your Web App

Bubble now has a native mobile editor, but it means rebuilding your screens on a separate plan. Here's when that's worth it, and when wrapping your existing Bubble web app is the faster, cheaper path.

9 min read

If you've built a product on Bubble, sooner or later someone asks: "Is it on the Play Store?" Bubble used to be web-only, so the answer was always a wrapper. Bubble now also offers a native mobile editor, which gives you a second option, but the two routes are very different in cost and effort. This guide compares them honestly and walks through the faster one step by step.

The two routes, side by side

Bubble's native editor is the right call if mobile is your main product and you're ready to design and maintain a second set of screens. If you have a working, responsive Bubble app and want it on Android phones this week, wrapping it is faster and far cheaper, and there's only one UI to keep up to date. Bubble's mobile pricing changes often, so check its pricing page for current plans before you decide.

Step 1: Make your Bubble app properly responsive

A wrapped app shows exactly what your mobile browser shows, so this step matters most. Open your app on a phone and fix anything that doesn't fit:

  • Use Bubble's responsive engine (rows, columns and min/max widths) instead of fixed-width groups.
  • Hide desktop-only elements below your mobile breakpoint, and show a compact header instead of a wide navigation bar.
  • Make repeating groups stack as a single column on small screens.
  • Keep tap targets at least 44px tall and inputs at least 16px font size so Android doesn't zoom in when users type.
  • Check popups: anything taller than the screen needs to scroll inside itself.

More layout tips that apply to every wrapped app are in how to optimize your website for a WebView app.

Step 2: Check your login method

Bubble's Google and Facebook login plugins use OAuth pages that both providers block inside embedded WebViews. Inside the app, Google shows a 403 disallowed_useragent error. Bubble's built-in email and password login works normally, so make that the main option, and test everything inside the installed app. See fixing Google sign-in in a WebView app for the alternatives.

Step 3: Turn your Bubble app into an Android app

  1. 1

    Deploy to live

Deploy your Bubble app to live and copy its URL, ideally on your custom domain, not the version-test URL.

  2. 2

    Create the app in Capsule

Paste the URL, upload your icon and choose a splash screen.

  3. 3

    Set package name and colours

Pick a package name under your own brand, like com.yourbrand.app, and match the status and navigation bar colours to your Bubble theme.

  4. 4

    Add a tab bar

Point up to five native tabs at your main Bubble pages, such as /home, /search and /account. This makes the app feel native straight away.

  5. 5

    Turn on what you need

Enable photo or camera access for file uploads, location if you use Bubble's geographic features, and push notifications through your own Firebase project.

  6. 6

    Build, install and test

Download the APK, install it on a phone and test the full flow, including sign-up and any payment pages.

Step 4: Publish on Google Play

Upload the AAB in Play Console, complete the store listing and the app content forms, and add a test login under App access so the reviewer can get past your sign-in page. New personal developer accounts need a 14-day closed test with 12 testers before production. Our Google Play publishing guide covers every form in order, and the 12 testers rule explains the closed test.

If your Bubble app sells digital subscriptions or unlocks features inside the app, read Google Play's Payments policy before you publish. Stripe is generally fine for physical goods and real-world services, but digital purchases made in the app usually need Google Play billing.

After launch

Keep working in Bubble exactly as before. Every deploy to live shows up in the Android app with no rebuild and no store review. Use push notifications from the Capsule dashboard to bring users back, with an optional link that opens a specific Bubble page when tapped. You only need a new build when you change the icon, splash screen, tabs, colours or permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I publish a Bubble app on the Google Play Store?
Yes. Either rebuild your screens in Bubble's native mobile editor on a mobile plan, or wrap your existing responsive Bubble web app in a native Android shell with a tool like Capsule and upload the AAB to Google Play.
Do I need Bubble's mobile plan to make an Android app?
Only if you use Bubble's native mobile editor. Wrapping your existing web app works with whatever Bubble plan you already have, as long as your app is deployed to live.
Will my Bubble database and workflows work in the Android app?
Yes. A wrapped app runs your live Bubble app, so the database, backend workflows, API connector and plugins all work as they do in the mobile browser.
Does Google login work in a wrapped Bubble app?
Usually not. Google blocks its OAuth page inside embedded WebViews. Use Bubble's email and password login, or a one-time code, as the main sign-in method inside the app.
Do I have to rebuild the Android app when I change my Bubble app?
No. Deploy to live in Bubble and the change appears in the app instantly. Rebuild only for native changes like the icon, tabs or permissions.
